Going away for a bit

Posted by KING OF NIGERIA | 2 Aug, 2009

The best.

I'll be going away, tomorrow, to South Korea(as opposed to Best Korea), until the 14th, with this church group. I have no idea who they are and what I'll do there; my mom just saw a newspaper ad and signed me up without telling me. The sad thing is, I'm going to miss a couple of episodes of Shin Mazinger and Shugo Chara.

Follow me on my Twitter to read about my uneventful wacky adventures at the airport, as I deal with the villainous airport security guards, who are just doing their jobs and have no reason to be blamed for what they're doing, and that one asshole, that sits in front of you in the plane, who thinks that it's funny to recline his seat way backwards to cramp your legs, or is having a really long day and just needs some rest!

An analytical discussion of Megazone 23

Since I haven't posted anything for over a week, here's an extensive discussion I've had over IRC with a friend, over the classic anime series, Megazone 23.

Anime Expo 2009

So I went to AX this year, for the first two days. I didn't bring a camera with me and my camera phone takes shitty pictures, like all other camera phones, so I didn't take any at the event. This post is just to go over some of the things that I did and saw there, even though it would be more appropriate to post them, broken up, as multiple Twitter entries.

Day 1:

  • On my way to get my pass, I saw someone cosplaying as Rorschach, from The Watchmen. In an anime convention.
  • Headed straight for the Dealer's Hall after I got my pass.
  • Saw some guy cosplaying as Hollow Ichigo, from Bleach, who wore this thick makeup. He looked like a fag and I wanted to punch him in the face.
  • Looked at a Heroic Age boxset at Funimation's vend; it was around $50 and contained half of the show. I decided to buy it next year.
  • Found a new Genesis Climber Mospeada DVD boxset for $20 and picked it up instantly. Last year, another vendor tried to sell me his for $70, because it was apparently "out of print". Bullshit.
  • Saw a Revoltech-brand Gaiking Face Open model for $13. I asked the vendors if they had a Closed Face version, but they told me that they had no idea what I was talking about, in a thick East Asian accent. I think they were Chinese or something.
  • There was this girl cosplaying as Amu Hinamori, from Shugo Chara. She made me feel all :3 inside.
  • I was standing in line, at a cash register, in another vend. In front of me, there were two girls dressed as Setsuna F. Seiei and Tieria Erde, from Gundam 00. I was startled when the Setsuna cosplayer suddenly said, "ORETACHI WA GANDAMU DA!" out loud. Afterwards, they started reciting several lines from Gundam 00. If I weren't holding onto a 0 Gundam model kit and a Hyaku Shiki figure, that I was purchasing, I would've strangled them both.
  • Found a small vend that was selling Gundam model kits, assorted backpacks, and DVDs. I purchased a HG 1/144 Victory Gundam and a HG 1/144 ZZ Gundam model kit from them for only $20. Words can not describe how happy I was.
  • Walked by someone cosplaying as Metabee, from Medabots. He had to hold the same pose for several minutes, due to passer-byers snapping photos of him, constantly.
  • Browsed around a manga vendor and saw that they had all three volumes of the Scrapped Princess manga. I didn't even know there was a Scrapped Princess manga, so I bought all of them.
  • Found volumes 5 and 6 of Shugo Chara in another manga vend. I remembered how awkward it felt to buy the first four volumes of it at Barnes & Noble, so I bought them.
  • After a while, I found Media Blasters' vend and purchased volume 2 of the GaoGaiGar boxset. After I bought it, I realized that I was standing next to a rainbow flag that had the word, "Yaoi" written on it, in big, bold letters and that they had a bunch of Yaoi DVDs stocked, right next to their GaoGaiGar boxsets. Shit was awkward as hell.
  • Spent $20 on a Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's card tin. I have no idea why I did, though, since I could've just bought it after AX.
  • I was looking through another vend's products and saw all six DVDs of Brigadon on sale for $25. I didn't know that those DVDs were still in production, so I bought them.
  • Walked into a video room and saw an episode of Naruto playing. I watched for about three minutes, before walking out.
  • I walked into a different video room and saw the Devilman live action movie playing. The adaptation was wrong in so many ways. Susumu was supposed to be killed by his parents right after he's introduced, Jinmen is supposed to actually fight against Akira instead of laying back to be killed by him, Ryo isn't supposed to reveal his true identity until the end of the story, and there definitely isn't a Black news anchor.
  • Met up with a group of people from Myanimelist.net and hung out with them until midnight.
  • Saw a guy in a Pedobear suit. I wanted to beat the crap out of him.
  • Met a friend that I haven't seen since middle school and talked to her for a few seconds. We didn't have much to say to each other.
  • I left at midnight, and while I was waiting for the bus to go home, a man approached me and unintelligibly asked for directions to some place. After, unsuccessfully, trying to interpret what he was telling me, I just said "No sé" and he walked away.

Day 2:

  • Met up with a few friends from school.
  • While they went to get their passes, I had to go to take a crap. Shit was embarrasing.
  • After they got their passes, we headed for the Dealer's Hall. Sadly, I only brought $40 with me that day.
  • I found a store selling Gun x Sword collectible figures, those small ones that you get randomly from a box. I bought two of them and got a Priscilla and Dann of Thursday, in sword mode. Needless to say, I was severely disappointed.
  • We somehow found ourselves split up into two groups after a while, because our group was interested in looking at figures and DVDs, while the other group opted to purchase keychains.
  • After walking around a bit, we found the Media Blasters vend. My friend, who shall be referred to as "A", couldn't decide between the Giant Robo, GaoGaiGar, and Tekkaman Blade boxsets. He decided to buy Giant Robo.
  • We found a store that specializes in mecha figures, where I finally found a Revoltech Gaiking- Closed Face. My other friend, who shall be referred to as "B", bought a Gundam Wing Zero figure. I laughed at him and called him a fag.
  • Afterwards, we found the store where I bought my ZZ Gundam and Victory Gundam kits. "A", after looking around for a bit, bought a ZZ Gundam and a Qubeley kit. "B" got bored and starting looking at other vends, but we were able to catch up to him quickly.
  • Later, we found Nippon Ichi Software's vend. Another friend, who shall be referred to as "C", who was with the other group, is a Disgaea fanboy. We decided that we'll buy some stuff from the vend, and when we find him, we'll wave around the Disgaea products in front of his face and then not tell him where we bought the stuff. At the time, it seemed like a brilliant plan. but when we met up with the other group, it turned out that they had already found the vend and bought stuff from there too. Wasted $10 on a poorly made Plenair figure.
  • After we all regrouped and talked for a bit, "B", along with a few others, headed home.
  • I pulled "A" to one of the theatres to watch The Wings of Honneamise, because I heard that Ichiro Itano, inventor of the famed "Itano Circus" technique, was involved in the production of the movie. It was disappointing; none of the fight scenes utilized the Itano Circus technique. All "A" had to say about it was, "Wrong genre".
  • We returned to the Dealer's Hall, to do some more buying, and regrouped with the others.
  • We visited the vend where I bought my 0 Gundam kit. I found a figure of Lunamaria Hawke, a.k.a. the only reason to watch Gundam SEED Destiny, that I must've overlooked the previous day, for $15, but I was short $5. I begged "A" for $5 and he demanded the $10 Plenair figure in exchange. After a bit of hesitation, I handed over the Plenair figure, and bought the Lunamaria figure.
  • "A" and I were looking around for a Black Getter Revoltech, but whenever we saw one and went up to buy it, it always turned out to be a Black Ox, from Tetsujin-28, which looked decievingly like it. In the end, we haven't seen at least one Black Getter.
  • Later, he returned the figure and told me to repay the $5 later. I gave the Plenair figure to "C", though, since he really wanted it and I didn't really like it.
  • The Gunbuster movie was being screened at the same theatre that The Wings of Honneamise was screening in, and I wanted to go watch it, but "A" had to leave, leaving me alone with "C".
  • On our way out of the Dealer's Hall, I found someone in FABULOUS Lelouch cosplay, so I had "C", who had a camera, take a picture of her and her friend, who was dressed up as C.C.(above)
  • When we entered the theatre, the movie was almost over. We did make it in time, though, to witness the show's infamous ending(0:46-0:52). When the scene happened, everyone in the audience started cheering and clapping.
  • After the Gunbuster movie, its sequel, the Diebuster movie, screened. The people playing the screening decided to dick around with the audience, by having, "There are no subtitle options" blink on the screen. I heard some boo'ing and a, "What? We have to watch a dub?". It must've been a terrifying experience for them, like 9/11.
  • During the middle of the movie, some ass walked in, and sat behind me. I had to deal with him shouting, "What the hell? This is fucking ridiculous!", "Woooooooow! This is so random...", and other such phrases, thoughout the rest of the movie. I wanted to clock him in the face.
  • At the end of the film, Gunbuster's ending scene was repeated. Once again, more cheering and clapping.
  • After the movie, "C" left for home and I met up with the group from Myanimelist.net again.
  • I went with them to some show or whatever. I had no idea what it was about, all I know is that, throughout most of the show, I wished that I had a rifle on me.
  • Next, we went to some AMV contest. As usual, most of the videos were mismatched videos to heavy metal/rap music, but there were a couple of them that I geniunely enjoyed, surprisingly. One AMV, Lord of the Anime, was so bad that it gave me a headache. It was clearly just a clusterfuck of random clips haphazardly strung together, yet it actually won the Creator's Choice award.
  • After that, I just went home.

Overall, AX 2009 was a rage-inducing experience, but I got a Lunamaria figure, so shit's a'ight.

Fuck this

BEST LINE IN A SHOW, EVER

BEST LINE EVER.
Forgive me, but I just had to post this here.

My idea for a movie

Posted by KING OF NIGERIA | 27 Jun, 2009

A fucking camera.

Random class full of high school sophomores is picked out and shipped to an island where they have to compete with each other in "The Contest", a government-sponsored reality TV show. In "The Contest", each participant has to prevent him/herself from ejaculating, or else a metallic collar that's placed around his/her neck will detonate, killing him/her. They'll each be sent out to the island, one by one. Each participant will be equipped with a sex toy, used to make others ejaculate. The sex toys will vary in usefulness; one may get a dildo, while another may get a picture of Hillary Clinton. The last person to survive "The Contest" will be let off the island to live his or her life normally, as long as they keep silent about the details of "The Contest".

This is my review of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Kirameki Yoko Box ~Pieces of Sweet Stars~, because MyAnimeList doesn't appreciate it and had it deleted from their site. :(

The best review you'll ever read:This video is the shit. Watch it.

Story: Story? It's about Yoko walking about, being delicious as fuck.

Art: Shit's fucking GAINAX. Tits fucking everywhere. 10/10

Character: Yoko. 10/10

Enjoyment: 10/10 I came.

Also, I don't think I emphasized this enough: tits.

Dear fansubbers...

When you make a translation note, please make sure that it's understandable, because some people aren't too fond of googling shit while watching something. Also, I don't have a screenshot of it, but don't make a TL note a link to a Wikipedia page either. Seriously. :|

Ugh...

Recently, I've come to the realization that, nowadays, my blog has been just me dumping a bunch of anime screenshots taken out of context. While some people have told me that they've liked some of them, I've decided that I'll hold off on them and try to come up with more substantial blog posts. Hopefully, I'll come up with something worthwhile to post about within the next few days.

Update: Also, I have no idea why I put this screenshot in with the post, since I wrote this post at like 2 in the morning.
